SRI KRISHNA LEELAMRUTHAM (THE NECTARINE STORIES OF THE DEEDS OF LORD KRISHNA)

24. PEOPLE OF VRINDAVAN WORSHIPING GOVARDHAN HILL

One day, Lord Krishna and Lord Balaram saw inhabitants of Vrindavan engaged to take part in the Yajna to sacrifice Lord Indra. Lord Krishna on seeing them asked His father, "Dear father, you people are engaged to involve in Yajna. May I know the rationale of this Yajna? Can you also elaborate to whom it is intented?". Nanda Maharaja replied, "My dearest child! The sacrifice is intended for Lord Indra who is the God of rain. If we worship Him, we will attain righteousness, earthly possessions, worldly enjoyments and He will supply water for the welfare of our needs. So, it is significant in worshiping Lord Indra".

Lord Muraari explains what is karma and Nature

On hearing this, the supreme God, Lord Sri Krishna uttered, "My beloved father! Due to the force of karma, a creature is born in the world and due to this, the respective creature passes away. Therefore, birth and death of all living entities are constructed by their own karma. Everyone in this world are born for a purpose. And they need to do their duty properly. If they do so, they will be blessed by the Demigods. God is satisfied if we perform our own duty  without any devitation and that's the reason foe our birth. So, my dear father, the clouds are due to the mode of passion. Because of this passion, we enjoy rainfall. And thus the farm gains. Where does Lord Indra come in the effect of karma? Moreover, He is not able to revert neither our own karma nor the Nature. We should understand that Nature will take its own course. The entire Universe consisting of Demigods, Demons, living and non living entities moves in accordance with the Nature. Therefore, karma or the end product is the top controller. What can the Demigod Indra do my father?". The people of vraja thought that Krishna's point of view was absolutely right and word perfect. Nanda Maharaja also agreed with what his beloved child uttered. Lord Krishna then persisted, "My lovable father and people of vraja! I would tell that worshiping our Govardhan Hill is paramount important because, it gives the needs of our living and thereby satisfiy in protecting us as a shield. Kindly make arrangements to perform Govardhan puja". The cowherd men and Nanda Maharaja asked, "O Krishna! what we are supposed to do now? How Govardhan puja has to be performed? What shall we offer". The supreme personality of Godhead replied, "Make satisfy the Govardhan hill. Call the Veda knowing skilled brahmins to perform this puja and satisfy them also. Arrange nice foodstuffs containing ghee and healthy grains. Make delicious milk sweets and adorn the cows for puja. After the completion of puja, give grains and money in charity to the brahmins as they successfully perform the puja. By doing this, our Govardhan hill is satified and I'll be very much satisfied!".

The Govardhan puja at ISKCON Mayapur

When people of Vrindavan on hearing this, they were very much happy and beautified themselves to perform the puja. They gathered the Govardhan hill. As directed by the supreme personality of Godhead, the people of Vrindavan gladly welcomed Veda knowing brahmins to perform yajna, decorated the cows, made delicious milk sweets and foodstuffs and conducted Govardhan puja to their heart's content. The people got blessings and successfully completed the puja. When the Govardhan puja was over, Lord Sri Krishna transformed into a gigantic form with glowing effulgence around His body and manifested Himself on the top of the Govardhan hill. The supreme God said, "My dear inhabitants of Vrindavan! I'm the Govardhan hill! I'm so satisfied by your puja. In upcoming lives, this puja has to be performed. To inbuilt faith in your hearts, I assumed Myself into this gigantic form!". The inhabitants of Vrindavan were blessed by the Lord. As Sri Bhagavan stated in Bhagavad Gita, "One should perform their own duties prescribed that satisfies the Demigods. One should never expect the fruit of result. Because,  When he or she look forward to something, life is about giving something you did not expect!". Lord Krishna is the Absolute Truth and thus He is regarded as "SRI BHAGAVAN". In this story, Lord Krishna wanted to destroy the polluted mind of Lord Indra who is puffed up with prestige and pride. As Lord Krishna is the "WORLD TEACHER", He doesn't want His student or disciple to be like this.
