SRI KRISHNA LEELAMRUTHAM (THE NECTARINE STORIES OF THE DEEDS OF LORD KRISHNA)

25. LORD INDRA CAUSING  CATASTROPHIC RAINFALL IN VRINDAVAN

When Lord Indra saw the inhabitants of Vrindavan worshiping the Govardhan hill, He became extremely angry. His pride and position hid His eyes from Krishna consciousness. He totally forgot to even remind Lord Krishna as He was very pride of His position as Demigod. Therefore, He called the clouds and winds immediately. The clouds and winds were known as Samvarthaka that are called to destroy the heavenly icon. Lord Indra with much anger ordered Samvarthaka, "I have invited you to cause an extensive flood in Vrindavan. Let me see how Krishna saves His people. After all Krishna is an ordinary man, He began to give suggestions and more specifically the Vrindavan people very easily avoided me. How dare they do this! As they were infatuated by the talks of Krishna, they performed the Govardhan puja which is useless. My power and wealth is more greater than Krishna! After realizing Me, they will worship Me! Go instantly and cause a heavy calamity! So the entire people and the calves also suffer!". On hearing the order of Lord Indra, Samvarthaka began to panic. Lord Indra said, "You go and cause the catastrophe. I will come there with my vehicle Gajendra (elephant) and also punish them by causing thunder and stroms!".

Lord Indra ordering Samvarthaka to cause
disastrous rainfall in Vrindavan

As per the order of Lord Indra, the disastrous clouds and winds appeared in the sky. Samvarthaka saw the aerial look of Vrindavan and targeted it to cause dangerous rainfall. The rainfall resembled arrows that was constantly pouring. The water entered the houses of inhabitants of Vrindavan, the cows were floating due to the disastrous flood and the trees were continuously falling down with great sound due to the dangerous thunderstorms. It was profusely raining so dangerous. The animals especially the cows are considered as assets for Vrindavan people. If cows are destroyed, the people are helpless. Due to this calamity, the people of Vrindavan assembled and uttered with pangs, "Seems like the cause of Indra Deva who had extreme anger. Our houses and cows are now floating in  water. We people are facing such a dangerous and helpless circumstance now! Who is going to save us from this disaster!". One old man replied, "Our Nandalala Lord Sri Krishna! Lord Krishna will certainly save us from this dangerous situation. Don't delay. Let us have shelter under the lotus feet of the supreme God! Come, let us go and surrender unto His feet!". Upon hearing the utterance of the old man the people ran and went to the place where the supreme personality of Godhead was present.

The people of Vrindavan sought refuge in Lord Sri Krishna

The people of Vrindavan uttered, "O Lord Madhava! we are helpless now. We are suffering a lot. We think that we people lose our lives so soon without enjoying Your pastimes. We kindly request You to save us from this disaster! Please help us Krishna!". On hearing the words uttered by the people of Vrindavan, Lord Krishna took pity on them and was thinking how to save His beloved people. The supreme God uttered, "O my dear people! fear not when I'm here! Trust Me! I will save you!". Lord Krishna went near to the Govardhan Hill. He picked up the entire hill and raised with His little finger! Lord revealed His GOVARDHAN LILA! The people were very hungry before He was raising the hill. But the hunger also vanished when they saw the marvelous scene. The supreme personality of Godhead uttered, "My dearest people! Have your shelter under the Govardhan Hill that protect us from this disaster". The people of vraja stuck with wonder. They again and again saw Lord Krishna's little finger and Him!
