SRI KRISHNA LEELAMRUTHAM (THE NECTARINE STORIES OF THE DEEDS OF LORD KRISHNA)

 50. THE BATTLE OF JARASANDHA AND CONSTRUCTION OF DWARAKA CITY

After Kamsa's death, the wives of Kamsa namely Asti and Prapti became widows. Asti and Prapti were the daughters of Magadha King Jarasandha. On seeing his daughters' condition, he was very determined to kill Lord Krishna and Lord Balaram. He decided to take a revenge on the Yadu dynasty. He prepared a thirteen military phalanxes force in order to attack the Mathura city and also to kill Lord Krishna. His military phalanxes consisted of numerous soldiers, horses, elephants and specialized weapons. With all is military prowess, he began to attack the Mathura city from all directions. Lord Sri Krishna on seeing the Jarasandha's military phalanxes, He decided to remove the evil from the world and to establish righteousness in the world. He was thinking how to handle this envy Jarasandha who was happened to be the grandfather of the Supreme Personalities. Jarasandha, with his multiple military forces appeared in front of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Lord Krishna planned to destroy the whole forces of Jarasandha. On the other side, Lord Krishna with His two military chariots with all weapons and military phalanxes was present in front of Jarasandha. The flags in their chariots had Garuda symbol. Lord Krishna instantly addressed His elder brother Lord Balaram, "O My  dear brother, We are here to protect the Universe from all sorts of risks and danger. We have to give protection to the Yadu dynasty and the inhabitants of Mathura city from arrogant demoniac king Jarasandha! You are the strongest of all men! So I request You to kill all the military soldiers of Jarasandha". Therefore the Supreme Lords decided to destroy all thirteen military forces of Their enemy. Lord Krishna sat on His chariot where in Daruka was the driver of Lord's chariot. Before the startle of battle, Lord Krishna and Lord Balaram blew their conch shells. On hearing the sound of the Supreme Lords' conch shells, the opposite party were shook with fear. While Jarasandha addressed Lord Krishna as the lowest of all men. But the absolute truth is He is the highest of all men, 'Purushotthama'. Jarasandha addressed Lord Krishna, "Hey Purusadhama, the lowest of all men! You are happened to be my grandson. It will be a great degradation for me if I fight with You boys. I fell shame in fighting with You because, You were hidden when You take birth, You are not a Kshatriya and You killed King Kamsa, Your own uncle". Jarasandha listed three reasons for why he have to have a shame or dishonor. Jarasandha addressed Lord Balaram, "Hey Balaram, if You demand to fight with me, You're welcome. You can wait for Your death".  Lord Krishna uttered, "My dear Magadha King, Jarasandha, it is a waste of time in talking with demoniac people like you. The wise people won't speak and prove their talent when time comes. And therefore, We don't mind your words". Jarasandha ordered his soldiers to surround Lord Krishna in order to attack Him. Lord Krishna resembled the Sun and the soldiers from opposite party were appeared as the clouds surrounds the Sun. Lord Krishna had a small military strength when comapred to Jarasandha. He took up His arrow named 'Saaranga' and began to blow arrows like a  continuous rainfall. All the elephants, horses and soldiers of Jarasandha's military company were killed. A river of blood flowed furiously. When Lord Balaram with His unbeatable strength began to fight with with the enemy, the river of blood overflooded. Even though Jarasandha was consisted of enormous military strength, he failed in front of the Supreme Lord. Jarasandha was only left in his army. When Lord Balaram was about to arrest him, Lord Krishna told His elder brother not to arrest him. As the Lord is the knower and well wisher  of all the living and non-living beings, He knew about Jarasandha's future too so He stopped Lord Balaram to arrest Jarasandha. Shameful Jarasandha decided to renounce his kingly posting and to go to the forest leaving all pride and name. The friends and counsellors of Jarasandha instructed him not to take any decision like that. They induced Jarasandha to fight against Lord Krishna and Lord Balaram again. The ill-motivated Jarasandha again came up with an enumerable military phalanxes and challenged the two Supreme Lords to fight against him. The Supreme Personalities again won by killing all his army forces and again Jarasandha shamefully returned back to his kingdom. Seventeen times Jarasandha tried to kill Lord Krishna but everytime, he was the looser and the God was the winner. When Lord Krishna and Lord Balaram majestically entered Mathura city after gaining victory in defeating with Jarasandha, the inhabitants of the city welcomed the Supreme Lords with a great pomp. They flowered Them and played many musical instruments to celebrate Their victory. The two Lords safely handed over the jewels and ornaments to Their grandfather, king Ugrasena.

When Jarasandha was defeating one such time, a Yavana king (Greek king) named Kaalayavana was also decided to destroy Yadu dynasty and also to kill the Lord. Kaalayavana was the son of Acharya Garg. Acharya Garg was the priest of Yadu dynasty. Once Acharya Garg was insulted and taunted by Yadu kings. So in order to make the Yadu kings fear of, He begot a son named Kaalayavana from the boon offered by Lord Shiva. He had a boon like he cannot be killed by any weapons. Once he had a conversation with Naradamuni. He asked Him, "Tell me who is the strongest men in the universe?". Narada Muni said, "O Kaalyavaan, Yadu kings are the most strongest in the universe". After hearing Narada Muni's words, Kaalayavana decided to kill Yadu dynasty. At the mean time, Jarasandha was also decided to defeat against the Supreme Lords. The people of Mathura was threatened due to this arrogant act. Lord Krishna, the shelter of all devotees planned to protect His devotees from all ill acts. So, He decided to raise a wall in Dwaraka fort where nobody can enter the city. The artistic wall was covering approximately about ninety six square miles within the sea. With the help of the great architect among the Demigods, Vishwakarma, He constructed the Dwaraka city within the sea! The city had a well developed streets, lanes and roads with desire spiritual trees namely 'Kalpagavrikshas'. These Kalpagavrikshas will not be found in material world. It was present due to the wish of Lord Krishna. The buildings were high as a skyscrapers. All the people in the city installed Deity statue of Lord Vishnu and worshipped Him. The city had a great richness due to the blessing of Lord Kubera. The city had a wonderful white horses which could run as fast as the wavelength of thoughts and mind. There was another place in the city for King Ugrasena too. The city also had auspicious waterpots called 'Kalasha'. The city The other Personalities and Demigods overwhelmed with joy and offered gifts with respect to their potential. The new artistic Dwaraka city was constructed and the people of Mathura were asked to transfer from Mathura to Dwaraka. Lord Krishna asked Lord Balaram to take care of the inhabitants of Mathura city and came out of the Dwaraka city. The Lord was beautifully garlanded with flowers. Lord Mukunda came out of Dwaraka city to meet the Greek demoniac king, Kaalayavana.

When Kaalayavana saw the unbeatable beauty of Lord Krishna wearing yellow Pitambara, a garland of flowers, having four arms with an indescribable body, He recollected what Narada Muni told about Lord's appearance. He confirmed with Narada Muni's words after seeing the magnificent appearance of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Kaalayavana came up with his military force where Lord Krishna was not holding any weapons and walked without even seeing him. Kaalayavana on seeing the Lord decided to fight without weapons. Lord Krishna didn't see him. Kaalayavana thought to chase Lord Krishna. Even though he walked very swiftly, he couldn't capture the Lord. Kaalayavana said, "You coward Krishna! I know that You are scared to fight against me! I'm nearing You". Whenever he thought that he is nearer to the Lord, he couldn't capture Him. Because, demoniac people like Kaalayavana are the slaves of the material senses and enjoyment. Even great Yogis also cannot capture the Lord. Only devotion and truth can capture Him. Even the Lord walks, Kaalayavana runs faster to capture the Lord. He followed the Lord for a very long time. He saw Lord Krishna entering a cave of hill. Kaalayavana swiftly ran and tried to capture the Lord. At once Lord reached the cave, he disappeared of a sudden in front of Kaalayavana. Kaalayavana entered the cave of hill. He saw a man sleeping inside the cave. Kaalayavana uttered, "Hey coward Krishna! You scared to fight with me and ran not to fight. Now You are sleeping such that not to fight with me. Hey coward! Get up!". He thought that the man sleeping in the cave was Lord Krishna and kicked Him with his foot. The man was still sleeping. Kaalayavana kicked him many times. Finally the man awoke with anger open His eyes  and searched in all directions to find out the person who disturbed Him. When He saw Kaalayavana with eyes emanating with rays of fire, he was burned into small ashes.
