SRI KRISHNA LEELAMRUTHAM (THE NECTARINE STORIES OF THE DEEDS OF LORD KRISHNA)

 49. AKRURA ENTERS HASTHINAPURA

Being ordered by Lord Sri Krishna, Akrura entered Hasthinapura. Formerly, Hasthinapura was the capital of Pandavas. Akrura when entered the city, he could see people with much opulence and royal. The city was full of elephants, horses, chariots and other richness. Akrura then met the king of Hasthinapura, Dhirtarashtra. He also saw the son of Mother Ganga, Bhishmadev, the chief Vidhura, the king of Angadesh, Karna, Duryodhana, Shakuni, Guru Dronacharya and Guru Kripacharya. Akrura also saw pancha Pandavas in Hasthinapura. Akrura received a great reception and was offered a comfortable place to sit. Akrura asked about the welfare of their relatives and sons. He then began to ask about the current situation of Hasthinapura and the Dhirtarashtra's monarchy. He came to know that Dhirtarashra was illegally occupied the position of throne after the death of king Pandu. Akrura could understand that Dhirtarashtra's monarchy was as a result of ill instructions of Shakuni. His monarchy was directed towards his sons' welfare and not to the sons of Pandu. Akrura aslo came to know that Dhirtarashtra always fails to obey the instructions of the chief Vidhura and grandfather Bhishmadev. So, there was no proper monarchy in Hasthinapura. Therefore, to know the apt situation, Akrura planned to remain there for little months. Staying there, little-by-little Akrura came to know from Kunti and Vidhura that Dhirtarashtra was always trying to plan to kill Pandavas as he was so envious on their mastery of military science and power. Akrura also learned that Dhirtarashtra planned to kill Her sons by giving poison. Mother Kunti was a direct relative of Lord Sri Krishna. She asked Akrura about the welfare of relatives, family members and friends. She also asked about Krishna and Balaram. Kunti uttered, "How is Krishna and Balaram there? Does He remember us?". She began to cry aloud and uttered, "O Madhava! You are the Super soul of all beings. Please give Me a shelter under Your magnificent lotus feet. I'm unable to explain the current deepened grief of us. Only You can save us from all sorts of clutches! Please relieve us O Krishna!". Akrura and Vidhura were pitying on seeing Kunti. They began to pacify and console Her by praising the Pandavas.

Akrura entered the kingdom where, Dhirtarashtra, Kunti with Pancha Pandavas and other Chiefs were present. At first, Akrura planned to give advise for Dhirtarashtra. Akrura began to utter, "My dear son of Vicitravirya, you are illegally occupied the throne. But anyways, now you are the king. One thing I will advise you. Please rule the kingdom based on ethics. The monarchy which is currently running under your control is actually an ill instructed ruling by people like Shakuni. If you still continue the ill ruling, you will certainly become unfame and people after this period criticize you for sure. So, kindly treat and take care of your sons as well as your brother's sons. They are leading a life without their father. And you are now directed towards your own sons' welfare due to blind affection. Being in the material contamination, one should not forgot the Super soul of all the living and non living beings. One should remember Lord Muraari even when they are too young, too self sufficient, to busy, too late, too tired and too much happy to attain the self realization and Jivan Moksha or liberation. Everyone in the world are under the action or Karma for that they will surely realize the equal reaction. So, my dear Dhirtarashtra, I'm requesting you to stay away from the material life by your ill motivation".

On hearing the advise of Akrura, Dhirtarashtra began to speak as follows, "My dear Akrura, I'm always grateful for your moral instructions and advise. But pardon me, I can't assent woefully. A life is a cycle which has all sorts of emotions and feelings. But, the ultimate truth after life is death. So before the death, one wish to enjoy the effect of nectar. Nobody has the power to stop one's own Karma except Lord Muraari. I understand  that He is the Supreme personality. He descended to the Bholoka only to protect the people from miseries and to re-establish Dharma". Dhirtarashtra cited that he has a strong faith in the Lord. Dhirtarashtra was facing two main miserable factors. One is undertsanding that Lord Muraari is the Supreme personality but, couldn't attain shelter under His lotus feet. Another one is his sons were the unnecessary burdens that totally made him fail to surrender unto the Lord. But at the end of Kurukshetra war, Dhirtarashtra surrendered unto the lotus feet of the Lord as his unnecessary burdens were removed by the Lord Himself. After hearing his utterance, Akrura clearly understood that Dhirtarashtra was not ready to follow his advise. He returned to His home and explained the happenings and the ill motivation of Dhirtarashtra. Therefore, he triumphantly completed the work given by the Lord.
