It was a mid season between autumn and winter, in the month of october-november. The unmarried girls with age ranging from seven to fourteen years used to worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Durga to get a good husband. But here, as the Gopis were attracted by the extraordinary beauty of Lord Krishna, they wanted Sri Krishna as their husband. The unmarried Gopis worshiped Goddess Durga with a deep and determined promise. For a period of one month, the unmarried Gopis used to worship Goddess Durga early in the morning after taking bathe in river Yamuna. The supreme Goddess was worshiped by making a doll through sand near the river Yamuna. After making ready of the Deity, they used to offer fruits and grains and worshiped with incense lamps and garlands. They used to eat foodstuff made up of moong dahl and rice devoid of turmeric and spices for one month. After the worship, one can pray for their desire to come true. The Gopis with great devotion, "O Goddess Katyayani! You are the controller of the world's illusion. We want to marry Sri Krishna and we desire to have Him as our husband. Please make arrangements for the marriage". So They followed "Katyayani vradha".
Gopis were ready to do anything to satisfy Sri Krishna. Their love towards Krishna was really unshakable. Since, Lord Krishna was the center of attraction in Vrindavan. Gopis would fall under the lotus feet of Lord Madhava. They wanted to become His lovable wives. Therefore they worshiped Goddess Durga to fulfill their desire. When the Gopis bathe early in the morning, they used to sing the glories and pastimes of Sri Krishna. At the last day of their worship, Lord Madhava came into picture. As Lord Krishna is the God of complete whole, He controls the senses of His devoted ones and as He knows about all the living entities, He knew about Gopis too. When the unmarried Gopis were bathing, Lord Krishna silently collected their garments and climbed up in a tree. He asked the unmarried Gopis to come up and take their clothes. At first the Gopis refused to do so. But as they love Sri Krishna than anything else in the world, they did accordingly.
The Gopis were very determined to be the great servitors of Lord Krishna and desired to become wives of Him. As they were so determined, their desire came true. Because, they enjoyed being with Krishna. Even if someone has lust towards the supreme God, their soul will be purified by His divine grace. Lord Krishna was so pleased by the devotion and love of Gopis and uttered, "My dear Gopis, You people are such a pure girls! I very well know about your resolve. Whatever you desire, will come true one day. You people want to worship me and wanted to become my wives as well. The materialistic desires are burnt, when I'm the object of desire for you. You gained by worshiping Goddess Katyayani! You will be able to meet with Me during the autumnal nights, I assure you!". After this event, the Gopis happily returned back to their homes by chatting with one another. When someone is involved in Krishna Consciousness, It is told by the Lord that their senses will be controlled by the God Himself. Thus, the good qualities of Lord Krishna are then automatically showered. Nothing is comparable to the extreme love of Gopis towards Krishna. They were the die hard devotees of Him. By ruminating the pastimes and glories of the Lord in every second, our lives would be enlightened as our souls are purified though we did some sinful acts.
